    You are given three bags of marbles. One contains all black marbles, one contains all white marbles and the other contains a combination of black and white marbles. All the bags are opaque and are mislabelled. What is the minimum number of marbles that can be removed from any of the bags to determine the correct contents of each bag?

Math Club Events

Mt. Rainier Math Invitational

Details:
  • We hope to send at least two teams of four to the first math competition of the year on Jan 28. It will be held at Mt. Rainier High School, from 4:00 - 8:30 pm.
  • There is a $7.00 entrance fee per student, and you may bring dinner or pizza is available for purchase.
  • Like last year, we can arrange carpools both to and from the competition, if needed.
  • The competitions are really fun, and give a chance for the student to try out their skills with a variety of 'games', including team relays, pressure rounds, and 'who wants to be a mathematician'.
  • I'll be distributing a permission slip in the next few days. We need a headcount as soon as possible, so we can register and be assured admission.

  • "Mt. Rainier Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society sponsors the invitational for sixth graders to challenge themselves in an individual math test and team tests in Algebra, Geometry, Pressure Round and Who Wants to be a Mathematician. No calculators allowed...
